Two people were shot early Saturday morning in New Bedford’s second double shooting in just over two weeks, police said. Around 3:30 a.m., two people were shot at the intersection of Coggeshall Street and Acushnet Avenue, said New Bedford police Sergeant Dean Fredericks. The victims were taken to Rhode Island Hospital, suffering from injuries that were not life-threatening, Fredericks said. Information about the victims is being withheld as police investigate, he said. The site of the shooting is less than a mile from 125 Collette St., where the city’s last shooting — which killed one man and wounded another — took place on May 30. New Bedford police are now increasing patrols in the area, “canvassing the neighborhood looking for witnesses,” and asking businesses in the area for surveillance footage, Fredericks said. He said anyone with information can reach detectives at 508-991-6300, ext. 320.
