Peabody man’s body found in North River canal

A man’s body was found in the waters of the North River Canal in Salem Sunday afternoon, police said.

A jogger happened upon the deceased about 4 p.m., according to Lieutenant Mary Butler.

Other than his gender, no information was released Sunday about the dead man.

Butler said she did not know if foul play was suspected or what the condition of the body was when it was found.

Salem Police and the Essex District Attorney’s Office are investigating. No further information was available Sunday night.
