S. Boston man arrested for robbery at Andrew Station

Daniel Smith, 26, of South Boston was arrested after allegedly stealing a cell phone and money from a man at the MBTA Andrew Square station Thursday night.

A South Boston man is facing a charge that he stole a man’s cellphone and money out of his hands at the MBTA’s Andrew Square Station Thursday night, police said.

Daniel Smith, 26, is to be arraigned today in the South Boston division of Boston Municipal Court on a charge of unarmed robbery, MBTA Transit Police said today in a statement.

Transit Police received reports of a robbery in progress at approximately 7 p.m.
When officers arrived, the victim told them he had been holding a cellphone and money in his hand when a man allegedly ran up behind him and stole them, officials said.

The victim said he ran after the thief, but was unable to catch up Using the victim’s description, officers located a potential suspect on the corner of Gavin and Logan Way shortly thereafter.

The suspect, Smith, was arrested after the victim positively identified him as the thief, police said.
