Governor Deval Patrick is a master wordsmith, known for his soaring rhetoric and eloquent, nuanced speeches.
But in a fundraising message blasted by email to supporters of Jeanne Shaheen this evening, Patrick is bit more reductive: Scott Brown bad. Jeanne Shaheen good. Give her money.
Patrick, who is not running for re-election this year, takes on the former US senator from Massachusetts who is hoping to unseat Shaheen.
“In Massachusetts, we know Scott Brown,” Patrick writes.
“He promised to go to Washington to work for our interests, but he didn’t,” he said, ticking through a laundry list of Democratic criticisms of Brown, a Republican.
“Your donation could be what stands between keeping the work of the Senate focused on ordinary citizens and not on the agenda of the hard right. We can count on Jeanne for sensible, compassionate and thoughtful decisions that help the country,” he writes.
Brown faces a GOP primary challenge.
Like most candidates for federal office, Shaheen and Brown face an end-of-June fundraising deadline, which often leads to an uptick in email solicitations from big-name figures.
