Embers from Eastham fireworks celebration catch fire

Embers from Eastham’s Fourth of July fireworks celebration on Sunday night caught fire in the grassy sand dunes of Dyre Prince Beach, according to the town’s Fire Department. The fire broke out at 9 p.m., away from spectators and caused no damage or injuries, according to Firefighter James McGrath. A fire engine had been stationed in the area and put out the flames within 15 or 20 minutes, McGrath said. It was not clear if the blaze was during the fireworks show or at its end. McGrath said this kind of incident is common in Eastham, especially at this time of year.
