A head-on car collision in West Bridgewater Saturday night killed a Whitman woman and sent two people to the hospital, police said.
Margaret Spagnolo, 47, was taken to Brockton Hospital, where she was pronounced dead after the 2013 Toyota Corolla she was driving collided with a 2002 Dodge Caravan on North Main Street shortly before 9 p.m., said West Bridgewater police Officer Ken Thaxter.
Spagnolo was the sole occupant of the Toyota.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe Spagnolo crossed the center line while traveling south on North Main Street, Sergeant Christopher Werner said this evening.
Daniel Nowokunski, 51, and his wife Susan, 61, who were in the Caravan were hospitalized, police said. Daniel Nowokunski was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center and Susan Nowokunski was taken to South Shore Hospital.
Werner said Susan Nowokunski broke her leg in the accident. He did not know the specifics of her husband’s injuries but said he is also expected to survive.
The Nowokunskis had a dog with them in the car who was unharmed and spent the night with police, Werner said.
State Police and local police are still investigating the cause of the accident, including why Spagnolo crossed the line. No one has been charged in the crash.
