3 seriously hurt in crash on I-190 in Worcester

Firefighters use an extrication tool to open a door of the overturned car.

WORCESTER — A Fire Department ladder truck was needed to remove victims of an accident that occurred about 10:30 this morning after a car rolled onto its roof on Interstate 190 above West Boylston Street, near Greendale Mall.

State police said that three seriously injured people had to be extricated from the car. They were taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center — University Campus.

The right lane of I-190 and Exit 1 are closed. Nearby Ararat Street has been reopened.

The vehicle’s bumper and other debris fell onto Mattson Avenue, also below I-190.
