Haverhill man dies after I-495 crash

A Haverhill man died after a three-car crash on Route 495 Thursday evening in which he drove across the highway and into oncoming traffic, officials said.

Thomas Valentine, 39, was driving northbound on Route 495 near Exit 48 on Thursday when his vehicle travelled off the roadway and over the grassy, marshy median, Massachusetts State Police said in a blog post.

After crossing the median, Valentine’s vehicle collided with two separate vehicles traveling southbound, operated by Stephen White, a 24-year-old Lawrence male, and Serkan Uguz, a 19-year-old male of Lawrence, police said.

Valentine was pronounced deceased at Lawrence General Hospital, and White and Uguz were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries.

The condition of White and Uguz is not immediately available.
