Family of five found dead in Maine apartment

A family of five has been found dead inside a downtown apartment building in Saco, Maine, authorities said Sunday evening.

Maine State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said the bodies of a mother, father, and their three children were discovered Sunday afternoon.

It was not immediately clear how the family died, but McCausland said the public is not in danger.

“There is no one else involved in this from outside the family,” he said, adding that officials may release more information Sunday night.

The office of the state’s medical examiner dispatched investigators to the scene late Sunday afternoon, where they joined evidence technicians with the State Police, McCausland said. The investigation is being led by Saco and State Police.
