Revere police release photo of suspect in Friday carjacking

Revere Police Department

Revere police released a photo Sunday of one of the two men allegedly involved in a carjacking that led to a manhunt Friday.

The men, believed to be about 30 and 40 years old, were picked up by a taxi Friday in the area of Tremont and Waltham streets in Boston, Revere police said on their Facebook page. The men allegedly jumped out of the cab in the Northgate Shopping Center in Revere to avoid paying the fare and took a parked SUV, which had keys in the ignition and a 14-year-old boy inside, police said.

Remaining calm, the boy told the men that he had his cellphone and was going to call his mother.

The suspects stopped the car near Green and Main streets in Melrose and fled on foot, police said.

The boy told a WCVB-TV reporter that the men were apologizing and promised to return the car to his mother.

“The guy in the driver seat was crying, ‘Oh no. I don’t want to go back to jail,’ ” he said.

A manhunt ensued in Melrose until around 6 p.m. Friday, when police believed the suspects were no longer in the area. Melrose police said Sunday the search was ongoing.

The two men are wanted for kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, and taxi fare evasion, police said. They did not appear to be armed during the incident, but are considered dangerous.
