A former Cape Cod pediatrician was indicted on child pornography charges on Thursday, according to the US attorney’s office.
Daniel J. O’Hern, 64, faces charges of possession and distribution of child pornography, the office of US Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz said in a statement. The Mashpee man was charged in a criminal complaint in June.
O’Hern, who was partially retired at the time of his arrest, was allegedly using a public sharing program to post the what appeared to be pornographic material depicting minors, Ortiz’s office said. Authorities discovered O’Hern’s alleged activities in May.
Federal agents searched O’Hern’s Mashpee home with a warrant in June, seizing computers and external hard drives, along with hundreds of DVDs.
After agents searched his home, O’Hern was arrested, Ortiz’s office said. He is being held in federal custody and could face a maximum of 30 years in prison on the charges.
