Dracut teen drowns in N.H. river

A Dracut teenager drowned while swimming in the Pemigewasset River in Woodstock, N.H. Sunday afternoon, State Police said. The 19-year-old man got caught in a strong current after jumping into the river near Route 175 about 1:40 p.m., State Police said in a statement. He was swimming with five other people at the time, police said. Officials did not release the victim’s name Sunday evening. The victim’s companions and other witnessed tried unsuccessfully to rescue him, the statement said. Responding Woodstock police officers pulled the teenager from 12 feet of water and performed CPR but were unable to revive him, State Police said.
