Suspect tried to hold up Charlestown liquor store, police say

Officers arrested a Boston man after breaking up an armed robbery at a Charlestown liquor store Saturday, according to police.

Officers responded to a call on Main Street at 5:53 p.m. and saw several people, including the suspect, Raymond Santos, 49, in a dispute, according to a statement from police.

A woman told police that Santos walked up to the counter, pulled out a black pellet handgun, and pointed it at her face, police said. She tried to grab the gun and called for help from fellow employees, who successfully disarmed Santos, police said.

Santos was charged with armed assault with intent to rob, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, and armed robbery.
