Water main break floods construction sites in Seaport District

Construction sites along Northern Avenue in the Seaport district were shut down due to a water main break that flooded the area Saturday morning, according to Steve MacDonald, a fire department spokesman.

At around 7:30 a.m., firefighters responded to the area of 142 Northern Ave.cq, where water flowed onto the street from a ruptured 30-inchcq water main pipe until it was shut off at around 9:20 a.m., said MacDonald.

“We had workers come out of a couple of construction sites on the ground,” said MacDonald. The electricity was also shut off at the sites and no injuries were reported, he said.

MacDonald said the pipe rupture caused the water pressure to drop and fire alarms to activate in areas along the waterfront. Pavement on Northern Avenue was damaged, he said, and city workers will continue to repair the street throughout the day.
