Driver killed, 3 hurt in Wellfleet crash

A three-vehicle crash on Route 6 in Wellfleet killed one person and injured three others Tuesday, State Police said.

Wende Harrison, 54, of North Eastham, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were taken to Cape Cod Hospital with minor to moderate injuries and were expected to survive, Wellfleet Fire Chief Richard Pauley said.

Three vehicles — a minivan, a pickup truck, and a large commercial truck — were involved in the accident, said Pauley. Officials went to the scene at the intersection of Route 6 and Kerouach Road at 8:29 a.m., said a Wellfleet police spokeswoman.

Harrison, driving the minivan, was traveling south on Route 6 when she veered into the northbound lane, colliding with the commercial truck, owned by R.W. Townsend & Sons, Wellfleet police said in a statement. The minivan then continued traveling in the northbound lane and struck the pickup.

Both lanes of Route 6 were closed for four hours, police said. The southbound lane remain closed for two more hours while crews waited for a crane, needed to lift the commercial truck onto a flatbed tow truck.
