Pedestrian injured in Lowell crash

An elderly man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in Lowell this morning, officials said.

The 76-year-old Lowell man was struck on Rogers Street near Park Avenue at 7:25 a.m., Lowell police said in a statement.

The man was taken to Lowell General Hospital and subsequently flown by helicopter to Tufts Medical Center, police said. He is apparently a neighborhood resident, and seems to have been struck while crossing the road, police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and has been cooperating with the investigation, police said.

The incident is under investigation by Lowell police, State Police, and the Middlesex district attorney’s office.
