Elderly man’s car found after Saugus carjacking

A stolen car found abandoned in Melrose early Thursday belonged to the 90-year-old man who was attacked outside of a Saugus grocery store Tuesday, officials said.

Saugus police found the stolen 2001 Ford Focus across the street from the Melrose Department of Public Works yard on Tremont Street, Saugus police said in a statement. The vehicle has been brought to the Saugus police department for a full forensic analysis.

A carjacker targeted the elderly man Tuesday morning outside of the Stop & Shop supermarket on Main Street, Saugus police said in a statement. The suspect apparently attacked the elderly man while he was grocery shopping, stole his car, and left him bleeding on the sidewalk outside, police said.

Police are still investigating the incident, reviewing surveillance footage from the area.

Police asked anyone with information to call Saugus police at 781-941-1199, or their anonymous tip line at 781-231-4037.
