Cool, dry weather to stretch into the weekend

Break out the sweatshirts, Bostonians. High temperatures for this weekend will barely exceed 70 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

Today will be partly sunny in the Boston area, with high temperatures in the low 70s. Western Massachusetts could see some showers this morning, said National Weather Service meteorologist Stephanie Dunten. The showers will likely dry up by the afternoon, but there could be more overnight tonight, she said.

“It looks like the weekend should be fairly nice,” Dunten said. Friday is expected to be mostly cloudy and cool, with temperatures in the low 70s, but the clouds will slowly move out as the weekend continues. Saturday and Sunday high temperatures will stay in the low 70s.

The beginning of next week is expected to continue to be sunny and cool, the weather service said, with no precipitation in sight.
