Dorchester man charged in non-fatal shooting

A 22-year-old Dorchester man is being charged today in connection with a non-fatal shooting near Ashmont Station Wednesday night, officials said.

Balfour McClean was arrested night after Boston police officers observed shots fired near Dorchester Avenue and Ashmont Station at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday, police and prosecutors said.

Officers chased the shooter on foot and apprehended McClean outside 14 Alban St. The 24-year-old victim, a Randolph man, was taken to Boston Medical Center. He is expected to survive.

McClean is to be arraigned today in Dorchester Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition, authorities said.
