A 26-year-old man in a truck was shot and killed on Allen Street in Springfield early Friday morning, police said.
Police were alerted at 2:05 a.m. to the shooting near a McDonald’s, Captain Thomas Trites of the Springfield police said.
The victim was shot at least once, Trites said, and fled in the truck. He crashed into a pole on Allen Street between Bicentennial Highway and Wilshire Road. The victim was pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center, Trites said.
The victim had gunshot wounds to the upper left arm and chest. Trites said it was not clear whether the wounds came from one bullet.
Police had no suspects and were continuing to investigate, Trites said.
The death was Springfield’s ninth homicide this year, Lieutenant Trent Hufnagel said.
“I think we’re down from where we were last year [in August], but it will vary” year to year, Hufnagel said. “Predominantly, our homicides are by firearm.”Kiera Blessing can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
