Occupants escape after car plunges into Charles River

A vehicle traveling down Memorial Drive near Western Avenue in Cambridge somehow went off the road and into the river at 11:21 a.m., said State Police spokesman Dave Procopio.

Preliminary reports indicated there were two people in the vehicle, but both got out safely, Procopio said. At this time State Police are not worried about anyone trapped in the car.

Procopio did not know if the driver or passenger were injured.

The Cambridge Fire Department and a State Police marine unit are removing the car from the water.
