Three bodies found in two homes in Boothbay Harbor, Maine

Police on Saturday discovered three bodies in two homes in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, a state official said.

The bodies of two men and one woman were discovered after Boothbay Harbor Police conducted a well-being check at one of the homes, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, told the Portland Press Herald. Police believe the victims are related, he told the newspaper.

One of the male victims and the female victim were in their 70s, McCausland said in an e-mail Saturday evening, and the other male victim was in his 40s. He added that police do not suspect that anyone else was involved in the deaths.

Two of the bodies were discovered on Lakeside Drive, and the other was found a mile away at a home on Montgomery Road, McCausland said. Boothbay Harbor is located about 50 miles northeast of Portland.

Donna Townsend, 65, of Montgomery Road, said in a telephone interview that she saw ambulances and “cops driving back and forth” on her street Saturday. Initially, she thought the commotion was related to a Fourth of July celebration.

“It’s a very small, quaint town,” Townsend, who is retired, said of Boothbay Harbor.

State Police detectives reached the scene around midday Saturday. The Maine State Medical Examiner’s office is expected to perform autopsies on the victims Sunday, McCausland said.
