The Wareham man who was attacked by a shark in North Carolina last week remains hospitalized at the Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C., in good condition.
Andrew Costello, the former editor of the Boston Herald who was bitten on July 1, thanked well-wishers and requested privacy in a brief statement Monday. Costello, 67, was hospitalized after suffering bites to his ribs, hips, legs, and hands when a 6-foot to 7-foot shark attacked him, authorities said.
Shortly after the attack, a hospital executive said Costello would require multiple operations.
