Storm brings flood warnings

Flash flood warnings were issued for parts of the state Monday as storms moved across the state, the National Weather Service said.

The downpours could cause water to accumulate quickly in roads and areas with poor drainage, forecasters said.

Temperatures will climb steadily this week, reaching as high as the mid-90s across parts of Massachusetts, including the Boston area, according to Bill Simpson, a weather service meteorologist.

But before the heat arrives in earnest, eastern and central Massachusetts will be vulnerable to thunderstorms and heavy downpours starting early Monday afternoon, according to Bill Simpson, a weather service meteorologist. There will be a potential for scattered showers across the state.

Highs in eastern Massachusetts on Monday will be in the low to mid-80s. The night will be muggy will lows in the mid- to upper 60s.

The chance for showers will continue into Tuesday. Humidity will begin to rise to uncomfortable levels and highs will be in the high 80s, forecasters said.

Wednesday will be the driest and hottest day this week, Simpson said. Most of the state will hit a temperature in the low 90s during the day.

A cold front will approach Thursday, bringing a chance for showers and slight relief to the heat. Highs will rest around 90 and remain in the high 80s along the coast and in Boston.

Highs on Friday will drop into the 80s and lows will be in the mid-60s, lower temperatures that will bring a reduction in humidity levels, forecasters said.
