Police investigate death of 2-year-old in Worcester

A 2-year-old girl died after she was found unresponsive in a Worcester home on Monday, police said.

Responders arrived to an apartment at 4 Wellington St. at about 11:30 a.m. for the toddler not breathing, a statement from Worcester police said. According to the statement, the mother and other family members were present.

The girl was brought to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. The cause of death is unknown, and there were no signs of trauma, police said.

Officials from the state Department of Children and Families said Monday night, “The department is investigating this incident and working with local law enforcement.”

DCF opens an investigation any time the death of a child is reported, the officials added.

No additional details were available Monday night.
