Early Boston commuters may see a smattering of snowflakes starting around 5 a.m. Monday, with accumulation anywhere from a “coating” to an inch, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Kim Buttrick.

The snow will likely turn to rain around noon as temperatures rise above freezing, Buttrick said.

Parts of the Berkshires can expect 1 to 3 inches of snow, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Frank Nocera.

Boston may see a wintry mix on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, according to Buttrick.

“Real arctic air” will move into Boston Thursday night and carry through next weekend, although no snow is expected, according to the National Weather Service. The high temperatures, which are expected to be in the low to mid-30s both weekend days, with Sunday morning in the low 20s, would be about 10 degrees below the average for this time of year, according to Buttrick.

The wind chill will dip as low as 15 degrees on Saturday and 25 degrees on Sunday, Nocera said.
