Authorities are searching for a 29-year-old homeless man suspected of nearly striking two Quincy police officers with a car.

Police officers arrived at the Quincy Center MBTA Red Line station at 12:41 p.m. Tuesday for reports of a possible drug deal taking place nearby, Quincy police said in a statement. Officers saw one man and two women inside a silver Pontiac Grand Prix involved in an alleged drug deal with a pedestrian.

When officers approached the car, the driver, Christopher Range, reversed out of the parking spot and tried to leave the parking lot, police said. Range allegedly turned the car toward the officers and accelerated.

Range allegedly nearly hit the two officers, who were “barely able to escape,” police said.

Range drove out of the parking lot, failing to stop for a red light at the nearby corner of Hancock Street and Russell Park, police said.

Officers found the car nearby on Avon Way, police said. The two women stayed near the car and one of them, 42-year-old Vanessa Townsend of Hull, was arrested for outstanding warrants. Information on those warrants was not immediately available.

Range allegedly fled the scene, police said, and was allegedly driving the car without a valid license. He also has an outstanding warrant for a probation violation, police said.

For his alleged actions Tuesday, Range is now being sought by Quincy police on two counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon (the car), failure to stop for police, a red light violation, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and reckless operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

Range is currently homeless but has ties to Rockland, police said.

Anyone with information about Range’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.
