Lawrence Police Department

Heroin and fentanyl was found in the father’s luggage, police said.

An 11-year-old boy in Lawrence called police Wednesday to report that he found drugs in his father’s belongings and saw him conduct a drug deal earlier in the day, according to Lawrence police.

Police responded to the home on Ferry Street and seized 212 grams of heroin and fentantyl packed in plastic bags found in the man’s luggage. The drugs have a street value of $8,500, police said in a statement.

An arrest warrant has been issued for the boy’s father, who was identified only as a 40-year-old from Lawrence.

Chief James Fitzpatrick praised the boy for calling police.

“I commend this young man for being brave enough to come forward and report that these dangerous substances were in his home,” Fitzpatrick said in the statement.
