The end of the work week will be both dazzling and drenching.

The National Weather Service said Friday’s weather will feature bright and sunny skies from morning and into the early afternoon in Greater Boston - but then rain returns.

Temperatures will reach the 60s and 70s across the region, forecasters wrote.

“High temps today in the upper 60s/low 70s across [Southern New England]!,” forecasters wrote on social media.

The sunny skies will fade by mid to late afternoon when a weather system bearing rain clouds will arrive and hang around into the early evening, forecasters wrote. Boston is looking at a 70 percent chance for rain later Friday, forecasters wrote.

The weather system may bring isolated thunderstorms and, in even more limited way, some small-sized hail known as graupel, forecasters wrote.

“More showers and thunderstorms develop” Friday, forecasters wrote. “However, not thinking any storms would get strong enough to be severe.”

Dry, but cloudy, weather is expected on Saturday with temperatures in the 60s.

But rain is expected to return Sunday and continue into next week, forecasters wrote.
