Rachelle Bond was released from the Suffolk County House of Correction Friday, but where the mother of murdered toddler Bella Bond is now living was not publicly disclosed, officials said.
Bond, 41, was sentenced to time served and placed on two years’ probation this week for her role in the death of her child and the disposal of her body, which washed ashore on Deer Island stuffed into a plastic bag filled with weights in 2015.
Bond was the prosecution’s key witness in the trial of her former boyfriend, Michael P. McCarthy, who was convicted of second-degree murder and ordered to serve 20 years in prison before he becomes eligible for parole.
She testified she saw McCarthy deliver a powerful blow to the child’s body and that she was with him when he dumped the child’s body into Boston Harbor. She pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to the murder of her daughter and to larceny for collecting benefits in her child’s name after she knew Bella Bond was dead.
Bond and McCarthy were heroin addicts before their arrests, and Bond had stayed in custody for two weeks because she wanted to be go directly to a residential treatment center, her attorney, Janice Bassil, has said.
Bassil could not be reached for comment Friday.
