After an “aggressive investigation” and social media campaign, the man who allegedly punched an 18-year-old woman 39 times outside a Rochester, N.H., gym last month was arrested Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Jordan C. Lamonde, 22, of Portsmouth, was nabbed Monday at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on a charge of second-degree assault, Rochester police said in a statement. He was held on $150,000 cash bail and will be arraigned Tuesday.

“This was a vicious, unprovoked attack that shocked our community, and I am proud to report that the suspect has been identified and apprehended,” Rochester police Chief Paul Toussaint said in a statement.

Shortly after the June 12 attack outside Planet Fitness on North Main Street, police released surveillance video footage that showed the suspect sneaking up behind the victim and striking her and throwing her to the ground.

The disturbing video was widely viewed on social media and spurred calls for an arrest from outraged members of the public.

Police said at the time that the assailant pummeled the woman 39 times before fleeing in a car. No motive for the attack has been disclosed.
