State trooper injured, suspect arrested after fleeing traffic stop

State Police arrested a Taunton man who fled a traffic stop on foot, injuring a trooper on Route 24 in Avon Saturday morning, according to police.

The trooper, who had pulled over a car on the southbound side near exit 19 around 10:45 a.m., sustained “what is believed to be a minor injury” in the pursuit, said State Police spokesman David Procopio.

The driver, who police identified as Nicholas Davis, 31, ran into nearby woods. Multiple patrols, K9 units, and a helicopter tracked him down, and he was arrested about an hour later. Procopio said a loaded handgun was recovered from the car.
