Man struck by commuter train in Lowell

A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was hit by an MBTA commuter train in Lowell Friday night, according to the Transit Police.

The man, who is believed to be about 62, was taken to a local hospital. His condition was not known.

The incident occurred at about 7:25 p.m. in the vicinity of Howard and Maple streets. The train was traveling outbound, police said in a statement.

The Middlesex district attorney’s office is investigating. Foul play is not suspected, police said.
