A female Harvard University undergraduate student was assaulted while running along the Charles River in Cambridge late Tuesday night, according to university police.
The victim said an unidentified man grabbed her from behind near the corner of Memorial Drive and Western Avenue. A struggle ensued, according to a Harvard police community advisory, with the victim using pepper spray to try to the thwart the attack.
She was ultimately able to break away from the man, police said, and ran to “the safety of one of the River Houses,” which are buildings where Harvard undergrads live.
The victim reported the assault to police around 11:50 p.m. She was unable to describe the assailant, police said.
