State Trooper taken to hospital after cruiser struck in Methuen

A vehicle registered in New Hampshire rolled over after striking a State Police cruiser in Methuen.

A State Trooper working a paid detail on Interstate 93 in Methuen was injured when a vehicle struck his cruiser and rolled over Wednesday night, State Police said in a statement.

The officer was on the southbound side of the highway shortly after 8 p.m., and had closed the Exit 48 off-ramp with traffic cones, when a vehicle registered in New Hampshire struck the back of his cruiser, the statement said.

The officer and the driver both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, State Police said.

The right lane of I-93 south remained closed in the area of the crash shortly after 10:30 p.m, according to State Police.

The crash remains under investigation.
