A bullet was fired through a fourth-floor window of the TripAdvisor headquarters in Needham Wednesday morning, Needham police said.
Needham police Lieutenant Chris Baker said that while an investigation into the shooting is ongoing, officials believe it to be a “random” incident at this time.
The shooting was reported after a TripAdvisor employee “heard a gunshot come through a window” of the office at 400 First Ave., around 7 a.m. Wednesday, police said in a Facebook post. No one was injured.
Officers responded to the scene and found that a bullet had been shot through a fourth-floor window of the office, which is located in a commercial park near Interstate 95.
Baker confirmed that “the bullet did come from outside” and “ballistics were recovered at the scene” on the fourth floor of the office building by State Police.
Baker also said that while the investigation is in its early stages, the shooting did not appear to be targeted at TripAdvisor or a specific person, as it occurred before most employees arrived for work.
“I would lean toward random,” Baker said of the shooting. “As of right now, we don’t believe there’s any ongoing threat.”
“This appears to be an isolated incident at this time and no one was harmed as a result of this incident,” Needham police said in the post.
In an e-mail to the Globe, a TripAdvisor spokesman said information on the shooting is being directed through Needham police.
