New Hampshire’s Amazon pitch: Boston is terrible

New Hampshire is making an unusual play to lure Amazon’s second headquarters: trashing its southern neighbor.

The state’s bid document seeking to convince CEO Jeff Bezos to locate his new facility there starts with the headline, “All the benefits of Boston without all the headaches,” and it gets worse from there.

But the bid, released to the public on Wednesday, takes pains to remind Amazon that New Hampshire is actually very close to Boston.

“As part of the regional metro-Boston area, southern New Hampshire offers all the benefits typically associated with major metro areas yet maintains the advantages of being in a truly enterprise-friendly state,” officials write.

Here’s a look at New Hampshire’s biggest complaints about the Hub:

■  “If Amazon builds its new facility in Massachusetts, every brick, board, drywall, server, and desk would be subject to the 6.25 percent sales and use tax.”

■  In a Q & A section, the bid document describes Boston as being “known for congested, decaying roads and overcrowded subways.”

■  “Commuting into downtown Boston has become a congestion nightmare. It has grown beyond capacity to the point where Boston actually had to withdraw from Olympic consideration because of the citizens’ fury over current untenable traffic congestion.”

■  “Choose Boston and next year when you leave your tiny $4,000-a-month apartment only to sit in two hours of traffic trying to make your way to an overburdened airport, you’ll be wishing you were in New Hampshire.”
