Twin 9-year-old sisters from Plymouth who were missing since they got off their school bus at 4 p.m. were found late Wednesday night at their mother’s home in Lewiston, Maine, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
Je t’aime Valentine and Dasia Valentine, fourth graders at West Elementary School, were last seen on Pilgrim Hill Road around 4 p.m., according to Plymouth police.
Their father reported them missing to Lewiston Police after they failed to arrive at their pick-up location after school, Lewiston police said in a statement Thursday.
But the girls were later “located and are safe,” State Police spokesman David Procopio said in an e-mail just after 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers discovered the girls in a residence at 55 Charles St. in Lewiston around 9:20 p.m., Lewiston police said.
“Lewiston police went up to the residence, and the twins were inside with their mother,” Procopio said.
Plymouth police Chief Michael Botieri told reporters that the girl’s 35-year-old mother and her 38-year-old boyfriend were arrested and are being charged with kidnapping.
Chareese Ford and her boyfriend, Craig Beaudoin, were taken into custody on a warrant for being fugitives from justice and are being held without bail at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, Lewiston police said.
They arrived at the jail early Thursday morning, according to a jail official.
Plymouth Probate and Family Court records show that Ford is the girls’ mother.
A woman named Chereese Ford was indicted by an Androscoggin Grand Jury on charges of welfare fraud in April 2017, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. The indictment alleged that Ford received public assistance benefits by falsely claiming that her children lived with her, the release states.Emily Sweeney can be reached at email@example.com.
