Boston police arrested three people and recovered two handguns in two separate incidents Thursday night and Friday morning, officials said.

In the first incident, an officer reported that he witnessed shots fired out of a moving car — a silver Toyota SUV — near American Legion Highway and Canterbury Street in Dorchester at 11 p.m. Thursday. The officer was driving behind the Toyota when he heard the shots and saw smoke coming from the passenger’s side of the car, police said.

When the officer stopped the Toyota near 108 Floyd St., the front-seat passenger got out and started running away, but the driver and second passenger remained in the car, police said. Officers chased and quickly arrested the fleeing suspect, while other officers recovered a black ACC International Intrac 9mm pistol in the center console of the car.

Officers charged the front-seat passenger, Wellington Gonzalez, 26, of Boston, with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

He will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court Friday. The other two individuals in the car were released.

In the second incident, at 2:30 a.m. Friday, officers recovered a loaded Glock 22 .40-caliber pistol with a large-capacity feeding device from two individuals near 36 Fessenden St. in Mattapan, police said.

They also found three plastic bags containing a tan powder believed to be heroin and one plastic bag containing a white powder believed to be cocaine, police said.

They are charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawfully carrying a loaded firearm, and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device. Soto-Lara is also charged with possession with intent to distribute Class A drugs and possession of Class B drugs, police said.

Both were arraigned in Dorchester District Court Friday and are due back March 1. Soto-Lara is being held on $10,000 cash bail, and Noel is being held without bail.
