A former Marblehead hockey coach was charged with raping and assaulting a 9-year-old boy, Essex County prosecutors said.
Christopher Prew, 31, of Marblehead, was indicted by an Essex County grand jury for aggravated rape of a child and four counts of indecent assault and battery on a child, the Essex district attorney’s office said in a statement. Prew allegedly assaulted and orally raped the boy on various dates between September 2017 and January 2018.
Prew was arrested by Marblehead police on Thursday after the boy’s mother reported him to police. Prew was arraigned in Lynn District Court the following day.
According to the statement, Prew provided private and group hockey coaching sessions but is not affiliated with the Marblehead Youth Hockey Association.
Prew was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing that is scheduled for Wednesday, prosecutors said.Laney Ruckstuhl can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow her on Twitter @laneyruckstuhl.
