Police are investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old Fall River man Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the Bristol district attorney’s office said in a statement.
Fall River police received 911 calls around 4:30 p.m. reporting shots fired and a male victim in the area of 408 South Main St., the statement said.
Police and other first responders found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the district attorney’s office said.
The shooting remains under investigation by Fall River police, State Police assigned to the district attorney’s office, and homicide unit prosecutors, officials said.
The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy on the man’s body, the statement said.
State Police sent detectives and troopers with the Crime Scene Services section to the scene following a request from Fall River police around 5:20 p.m., said Trooper Paul Sullivan, a State Police spokesman.
Fall River police referred questions to the district attorney’s office.
