A mother and her 12-year-old child woke up to the sound of bullets being fired into their Manchester, N.H., apartment early Thursday morning, police said.
Officers were called to the 200 block of Central Street around 12:30 a.m. after a resident reported possible gunshots in the area, Manchester police said in a statement. Upon arrival, police located bullet holes in the first floor of a three-family apartment on Central Street, where the woman and child lived.
Police said they spoke with the two, who were uninjured but had woken up when they heard gunfire. Officers conducted a search of the area and found several spent shell casings outside of the apartment.
It was not immediately known who shot into the building, police said. An active investigation is underway, and investigators are asking anyone with information or video surveillance of the area to contact the Manchester Police Department.Laney Ruckstuhl can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
