1,400 customers lost power after manhole explosion in Cambridge

About 1,400 electric customers lost power for an hour Friday morning after a manhole explosion in Cambridge, officials say.

The explosion occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Warren and Cambridge streets, Cambridge police spokesman Jack Albert said.

Eversource was called and determined that the power outage was caused by a failure in an underground cable, Eversource spokesman Reid Lamberty said.

Lamberty said all power has been restored and Eversource crews were on the scene making repairs.

No injuries were reported, and the incident is under investigation.
