Woman’s body found in Maine’s Penobscot River

State Police are seeking the identity of a middle-aged woman whose body was found by kayakers in the Penobscot River. Officials said the body was found Monday morning floating in the river about 20 to 30 feet offshore in Hampden. The body, which appeared to be in the water for a few days, was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The woman appeared to be in her 50s or 60s, and had short, reddish hair and was wearing blue jeans and a leather-like coat. Detectives said they will be reviewing missing person reports.
