Red Sox top charitable giving list
Over 10 years, team raised $52m, tops in baseball
Ten years ago, when the Boston Red Sox were sold to a trio of unknown out-of-staters, the owners signed a contract with the state attorney general, promising to raise $20 million for area charities over 10 years. A report released Monday by the Red Sox Foundation reveals that it has donated more than $52 million to nonprofits over that period, making it the most charitable team in baseball. It’s a rare bit of good news for the struggling Sox.
