In ads, Scott Brown obscures his GOP identity

In Washington, the race between Senator Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren is a key battle in a partisan war over who controls the Senate. But in the world of Brown’s television commercials, his website, and his speeches, the senator’s political party is often barely visible.

His three newest advertisements feature Democratic endorsers, all of whom identify their own party prominently, without mentioning Brown’s Republican allegiance at all.

Thank you Noah Bierman for writing this article. I have lived in Massachusetts for most of my life and feel that I can identify those republicans running for office in our state who are sincere, altruistic.....they have the best interest for Massachusetts over their allegiance to their party. John Volpe, Ed Brook, Weld and Paul Celluci shared this.....the boy senator brown certainly does not. Personally, I'm offended when the "famous ray-mus" flynn ad is run. I'm thinking if brown ever had the misfortune for the state to be re-elected....what a horrible thought.....then what position or designate will he offer flynn? Specila South Boston envoy to the Vatican? Then there is television ad running with the dopey woman from Worcester, claiming she is a democrat and former mayor....smoothing over the "virtues" of the boy senator as one of us. Give me a break! In reality....and I believe your article alludes to....that the boy senator is a tea (formerly republican) party member. He votes, caucuses, and hangs out with the likes of mcconnel, thune, kyl.....senate obstructionists who have heaved the best interests of the country overboard in favor of making Obama a one term president. The boy senator is slick....or thinks he is. Voting for him will only increase the distance between the two parties and is bad for America. I believe Elizabeth Warren is much better for Massachusetts....and by extension....the best interests for our country. It is a tenet that the boy senator cannot comprehend because his mantra like the majority of his tea (formerly republican) party is....party first, country second. Those stupid ads you are running little scotty reflect an insecurity about who you are....most likely a life long trait.

Well, the Globe has done a pretty good job of laying out Brown's strategy. He's a total flim-flam artist and his policies are terrible for America. If he's elected we have no one to blame but ourselves. The Egoist from Wrentham who adores the prospect of a right-wing government with himself as the deciding vote in the Senate on every new law. He will be loved and hated and feared but never ignored. Never ignored. HE will be KING OF THE WORLD!!

Mr Bierman must be new to politics with a nonsense article like this.

This guise by Brown is as self-serving and hypocritical as his putting on Carhartts and driving around in a pickup to dupe the uneducated white males between 20 and 50 in the Massachusetts "heartland" into believing that he's "for them", nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Brown has sided consistently with his Republikan compatriots in the House since being elected, even though he evades defending his actual actions. This wolf-in-sheep's-clothing tactic is standard for Republikan politicking, as we well know from Romney's chronic waffling. At least with the latter he's been honest enough to "come out" by selecting Ryan, too bad Brown doesn't have the backbone to do such a thing against Warren (who is far more honest and forthright with her views).

What's the nonsense here? He's just pointing out the obvious. Sorry you don't like it.

Of course Brown hides the R after his name. He knows that it represents stands on issues which are a severe problem. Brown got elected on a fluke, against a very weak opponent, coming in the wake of a legend having the seat for a half century. It's time for Mass to re-establish the priorities on the national stage that best represent true fairness for the 99%. Brown has not declared himself firmly in that camp.

If it......votes like a duck, so he's definitely a Republican. He is a sure bet to raise your taxes, decrease funding for education, run amok with the environment, and vote lockstep with Mitch McConnell against bills that the President needs to alleviate the suffering caused by this recession. He supports the Paul Ryan budget and therefore he is not averse to handing Medicare to the private sector. The $700 billion the Republicans squawk about is money taken out of Medicare from Medicare Advantage, fraud detection, and a levy on medical device manufacturers(actually agreed upon by the industry). Medicare Advantage was no advantage for its recipients in terms of health benefits or services. However it was over subsidized so private insurers were spending 111 to 130% for the same services other Seniors were paying under traditional Medicare. Instead of praising the President for stopping undeserved payouts, Republicans stand up for private insurers who were ripping off the public. Scott Brown is one of those Senators who favors these unseemly payouts from Medicare. What is even more ironic is these private insurers touted the fact that they were more efficient than government and only needed 95% of what Medicare paid at the outset of the program(Medicare Part C). So they cherry picked subscribers and it worked out for awhile but their members got older and their promise fell flat. Republicans are responsible for squandering taxpayer dollars in this program. A vote for Scott Brown is a vote to return to these scandalous subsidies. When Paul Ryan speaks of a Medicare voucher program you will see less Medicare outlay from the government but an unspeakable portion will come out of the elderly's pocket. This plan calls for increases from data based on the cost of living plus 1%. Medical costs have easily doubled that number and would result in high deductibles or co-payments to cover additional costs. Scott Brown presents as a chummy public figure but his votes in Congress will make the public poorer for it. This is why he shuns the Republican label so he does not have to make clear what he will vote for in Congress in his ads.

Lizzie's stands on the issues are a severe problem. She is a flim flam artist whose policies are bad for America. She represents unfairness for 99% of all Americans. The egoist from Hahvad adores the prospect of a left wing government with herself as the deciding vote on every new law in the senate. It's time for Massachusetts to re-establish the priorties on the national stge that best represent true fairness for the 99%. Warren hides the D after her name and says she is an independent voice for the disenfrancised native Americans. She will be loved and feared but never ignored. She will be Queen of the world. She has duped the poor people with bad credit between 20 and 50 in Massachusetts heartland into believing she is "for them", nudge, nudge, wink, wink. I think this about sums up the argument for today. Right boys and girls?

Very articulate.

What is he afraid of? Why is he hiding his political identity?

It sums it up for Scott Brown not the rest of us who understand facts should outweigh silly smears of a candidate. Maybe you should analyze what Scott Brown has in store for you by his votes taken. Added up he increased the deficit or voted for or against bills whose action was to relieve the suffering of the unemployed, preserve the environment, or help people pay their health care bills. Do you agree with the Republican platform? Scott Brown does.

If you fall for ads that avoid issues and promote"nice guys" you can hold Raybo's hand all the way to the looney bin. Ray's tires of all the friction, just give the GOP whatever they want, that's the ticket. Vatican Ray (and the devout Ryan) should re-read the story of the loaves and fishes and realize he's one of the naysayers. Did Jesus pick the apostles from the elite and rich? No. He went as far to say its would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than to enter heaven. Ray says he knows nothinbg of Waren's positions, so he probably doesn''t know Brown's either. Good enough he's a "nice guy". Totally 'round the bend. In southie, its mostly about Aunt Zeituni than anything else, probably.

Yes, OETKB, facts should outweigh silly smears of the candidates. That's what I read in this mornings comments. May I suggest that only an idiot agrees with everything any candidate or political party says or does? Releaving the suffering of the unemployed, protecting the environment and helping people pay their health care bills are things any sane, rational person endorses. At issue is the means to promote these goals. I sometimes write in the hope that I will be discovered for the fraud I am when I enjoy brief moments writing purely absurd comments. Yes, "silly smears" is what I read most often written by people who are so filled with hate they refuse to debate issues by point snd counterpoint. Is Ms Warren stupid or redculous? Certainly not. However, neither is Senator Brown. I recently wrote that I was suffering from "Gay marriage fatigue" and wished some other worthy subject could fill the papers and airwaves. That got me some rave reviews for being a hate filled bigot. My bottom line for political endorsement is based on what I have experienced in terms of success over the past four years. Lacking the intellectual tools what went wrong, I make a choice to either stay with the current team or look for any alternative that may promote changes for the better. Political platforms are never looked at seriously after the election and the new President is faced with a realty that is staggering and sobering enough to make him suffer heart palpitations. Bottom line, I cannot imagine America ignoring the need to sober up and get the drunks out of congress who pass laws they have not read. I have heard no proposals from the current President to engage the economy and move toward balancing our natiional budget. National healthcare should be revised to reduce its size and scope. There must be a simpler way to provide health care. I do leave room to be pursuaded that Mr. Obama might find ways to get America back on the road to prosperity, but I have not heard meaningful proposals. Calling the "Bain game" and filling my ears with class hate for Americans who are successful is not going to do it for me.

Trying to shield himself with an endorsement from Ray Flynn? Really? As Brown is one who reported suffering sexual abuse as a child, I'm at a loss to explain why Brown would associate himself with this apologist for the Church. Unfortunately, Brown's voting record in Washington (against equal pay for equal work, for the Blunt amendment to limit women's access to reproductive health care, among countless other examples) tells us that he is not a progressive voice and certainly not the person I want representing me in the U.S. Senate.

Mr. Brown is a Republican, plain and simple. He's trying to pass himself off as an Independent. But he's not running as one. He voted for George Bush. That's all you need to know about this person. Not someone I want as Senator.

Ray Flynn moved right because he was targeted by a democratic attorney general. He was suckered into taking the bait when Bill Clinton offered him the vatican ambassadorship which effectively removed any criticism from the left. Flynn must be embittered now. I wonder what his parents would say about him supporting a republican. For shame Ray, for shame.

How stupid can the Mass electorate be if they don't know Scott Brown is a Republican. Sorry, I have my answer this is Massachusetts.

Want to know why the cost of education is so high for our children? Look no further than to Professor Warren who earns $375,000 per year to teach one course. No wonder she checked off American Indian on her work application at Harvard. Is this hypocritical or what?

Wow I can't believe I read the whole thing. I thought I was the champeen of long posts. However Scott Brown believes in luck to improve people's lot. It works for some but not so much for too many. If you do say you endorse the positive side of the issues you and I mentioned then better check Scott Brown's voting record or his website because he is a fiscal disaster waiting to happen, and thinks profits come before good land stewardship. Maybe it will take legislators who agree with both of us to bring about positive changes but until that happens I do not want to go backwards. PRESENT Republicans pine for a yesteryear when they were free to ruin the economy in their favor. If you haven't noticed Elizabeth Warren supports the President but at the same time is a stronger advocate for a level economic playing field. Calling her a liar or worse reveals an unwarranted animosity towards someone who has had achievements in life that anyone would be proud of.

What does your comment have to do with the point of this story? But to answer you, since you prefer to focus on personal story issues, how about answering this question? Is it hypocritical or what, in light of the PennState/Sandusky scandal, for Scott Brown, the sexual abuse victim, to shield his sexual abuse perpetrator from public scrutiny? He has no problem identifying the nasty abusing family members.

Of course he tries to hide his affiliation. The voters of the Commonwealth dutifully do as they are told and without any thought vote for whomever has a "D" after their name. It is hard to overcome such purposeful ignorance. IIf any replies miss the point that this is more an indictment on voters who support one party rule and the corruption that follows rather than the party in power thst can not be helped. Some view the world through rose colored partisan glasses.
