Brown campaign calls behavior ‘unacceptable’

Senator Scott Brown’s campaign on Wednesday night issued a statement calling the behavior of some staffers “unacceptable,” as a Cherokee Nation leader denounced Brown’s campaign for what he called “offensive and racist behavior” towards Native Americans.

A day earlier, Democrats released a video filmed outside a Brown campaign event showing Republican staff members, including an aide in Brown’s Senate office, performing tomahawk chops and war whoops amid a crowd of boisterous supporters of both candidates.

As a Scott Brown supporter, I can't disagree with the Principal Chief's request.  It was a disgusting display by the staffers and keep in mind,  I'm a really non-PC type of guy so if it got to me, I can imagine how some others are bothered by it.  IMHO, it was totally uncalled for.  Bring it up several notches Scott.  Drop the negative BS right now.

He is what he is.  Now that it is made clearer to you how he operates, this man is no bipartisan.  His negotiating style is always to extract a pound of flesh for his ethically challenged Wall St power broker supporters.  The country is suffering because of their disregard for their fellow citizens.  Why put Scott Brown back in office when he shows so clearly where he stands?  He is a vote for higher taxes for those who will struggle to pay them.  He gets on board with bills that favor despoiling of our environment.  He is on the wrong side of expanding deserved rights for women.  He favors a bigger military making another war possible.  This issue is just the canary in the coal mine on how he legislates.  Eric Fernstrom, Mr. Etch A Sketch, is his campaign manager as well as Mitt Romney's.  Need one say more about this vicious operative?  Scott Brown got lucky once.  He's had his turn trying to play Senator from Massachusetts and just did not make the grade.  Besides it is not a choice between the lesser of two evils.  Elizabeth Warren has shown her seriousness and has the knowledge and experience to make a great Senator.  Of course it will be up to her if she is elected but I'd put money on it that she will do her darndest for the voters of the Commonwealth.

Honestly, I admire you for your principled response to some unfortunate behavior on the part of some of Senator Brown's staff. Senator Brown would do well to read comments like yours and advise his staff accordingly.

Lest we not forget how Scottt Brown Really thins:  In 2001 he questioned Sen Cheryl Jacques decision of having children with her partner as "not normal" and further characterized her parenting as "alledged family obligations".  Brown bamboozled a large part of the population acting like a "nice guy".  Now his true colors are going out.

The Chief called on BROWN to apologize?

Ok folks, that makes it officially sanctioned:  If you feel like a Native American, you are one!  Feel free to CHECK THAT BOX, whether for a job application or college admissions, whatever.   Obviously Elizabeth Warren is the model solid citizen for all things politically and socially correct, so follow her example and CHECK THAT BOX!

No, really, this is probably the best outcome!  Even if Warren becomes Senator, her and Chief Baker give affirmative action scamming the green light!  With my kids SAT's   PLUS  checking that box as a minority they are going IVY League all the way!

WSB, got it! Definitely know where you are coming from with your comment, and your comment on your comment. By the way, it would properly read "she" and Chief Baker give a green light. Sorry but my SouthernSuburbanMom spouse is a stickler for these things.

Surprised anybody? ...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - During Wednesday's Democratic National Convention, Cherokee Nation Chief Bill John Baker had a moment in the spotlight.

Baker was selected to officially cast Oklahoma's delegate votes during roll call.

"Madam Chairman, I'm Bill John Baker, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation," he said.  "My fellow delegates and I proudly cast all of our 49 votes for the best president in Indian country and for Indian country ever, the people's president, Barack Obama."

Hello, Chief Baker?  Yeah, Hi ... I was wondering, could you do us a favor?   See, here in Massachusetts Liz Warren is way ... who?  Liz Warren. Elizabeth Warren. Right.  Yeah, supposedly 1/32, we think. Anyway, she's in a bit of trouble here, so we were wondering ....

An oppressed minority spokesperson supporting the Democratic Party ticket? Shocking!

The bottom line here is that it is not up to Scott Brown to determine whether Elizabeth Warren has Native American heritage or not. It is arrogant and  paternalistic for him to tell voters to "look at Warren" so we "can see that she isn't." His campaign employees who "whooped" it up are simply stupid frat boys. In total, Brown and his staff display a shocking level of disregard for Native Americans and they should all apologize ASAP!

Seriously?  Cherokee Nation Chief Bill John Baker is a life long Democrat from Warren's actual home state, was a delegate and officially cast Oklahoma's delegates at roll call and the Boston Globe doesn't find this a relevant fact to report?

At this point I read the Globe for the same reason I watch Lawrence O'Donnell and the most Reverend Al Sharpton ... same reason a read Mad magazine as a kid, just sooooooooo funny.

I love how Warren haters keep repeating the absurd and offensive "checked the box" phrase that Brown started. Do you all think that a law professor fills out an application form like she's applying for a job at McDonalds?? She was recruited based on her record and her credentials as one of the foremost people in her fields. To say otherwise is absurb on its face. Also I'd like to challenge everyone out there who didn't directly emmigrate to the US. What are your family histories? If you're third generation Irish, for example, do you have proof that your grandparents actually came from Ireland? Where are their documents? Do you have them Do you have proof that they ever became citizens or are you the progeny of illegal immigrants. How about African Americans? Do you think all african americans who are descendents of slaves have proof that their ancestors were slaves? Does anyone out their think that their parents were lying to them about who their ancestros were and would you question your parents? I think this whole thing is a tempest in a teapot and patently absurd. Does anyone have proof that Scott Brown was abused as a child? Has anyone seen or asked for the social worker's or police reports? Even though I have never seen any of this and I am not a Brown supporter, I don't doubt that something bad happened to him as a child. I think it is doubly disingenous of Brown to attack Warren on things that can be proved from her past, but that she clearly believes to be true, and at the same time talk about his own childhood as if its the God's Truth. Let's all move on from this. I am bored to death of it.

You have exposed yourself as a fool.  You are exactly the type of woman they were hoping to manipulate.  Good luck with that.

Maybe Bill John needs to get a sense of humer. Or maybe he's on Warren's staff.

What's a sense of humer?

I think it's what old people use to avoid hitting the curb in their Hummers.

I wondered how long it would be before Indians would become incensed by the stereotypes and racism surrounding this issue.

The funniest part his how unprepared the Brown supporters were for such a development. The comments here amount to a lot of sputtering.

WesternSuburbDad is absolutely apoplectic. Entertain yourself by reading his posts. Hilarious.

I agree. He is one angry paleface. Oops! I apologize BEFORE he reports me. Does that count, WSD?

WSD's posts are definitely the funniest thing I've read in ages.  He seems to have forgotten their arguments that REAL Cherokees hate Warren.  Whoops.

The whole thing is a giant waste of time.  It is a political non-issue that Brown brought up that is now biting him in the butt and frankly I think the bite in the butt is as non important as the original issue.  People need to get a grip, don't care about war whoops and don't care about Warren's heritage and people who do care about these two things are wasting everyone's time.

What is doubly disturbing is that the aide in Brown's office, whose salary is paid by the taxpayers and whose job is consitituent services, is acting like a buffoon at a Brown campaign event. Presumably on company (i.e., our) time. No comments from the Senator on keeping his staff on task (serving us) rather than making crude and racist gestures at Warren supporters. Noted as someone whose family lore holds that his great-grandfather married a woman who was one-half native American. Can't prove it to Scottie, but we certainly believe it.

This stuff will be forgotten after Warren bombs out again at the next debate. (Of course the Globe already has a piece stating that she won before the debate starts).

So Warren can insult Native Americans by pretending to be an Indian but her detractors can not mock her for it!  Ok, I got it.  The press is selling outrage on one hand and ignoring the larger outrage on the other.  "Can't trust the Boston Globe."  Got it.
