A New Hampshire fire chief has been recognized as the state’s emergency manager of the year. Steve Solomon has been chief of the Conway Village Fire Department since 2007 and emergency management director for the town of Conway since 2008. Perry Plummer, acting director of New Hampshire Homeland Security and Emergency Management, said when Tropical Storm Irene hit the state in 2011, Solomon was faced with an area of his community that was completely flooded out, causing the loss of many homes, and people’s personal property. WMWV radio reported that Solomon coordinated nighttime boat rescues of low-lying residents of Conway who became stranded by raging Saco River floodwaters.
