John DeShazo, 60, builder known wit, generosity

With wit and a ready talent for storytelling, John DeShazo could charm everyone from a checkout clerk to a crowd of strangers in an elevator. For 35 years he ran FBN Construction, a company he founded shortly after graduating from college, and this year he was president-elect of the Builders Association of Greater Boston. But most of all, “John was really a lot of fun,’’ said his wife, Jake Karger. “It sounds like a cliche, but he was one of those guys who really enjoyed every day.’’ Mr. DeShazo died Oct. 28 in his Milton home. He was 60.
