Thomas Neff Jr., voice and mentor for state troopers

Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Thomas William Neff Jr. had a knack for expressing in writing what many troopers would never say, regularly contributing to the Trooper Newspaper, where he touched on dealing with difficult subjects, such as the death of a child. Sergent Neff, who spent 34 years with the State Police, died of a heart attack Dec. 19. He was 59. His funeral is today in Hampton Falls, N.H.
